St Paul’s Men’s Shelter

Outsiders Inn works on a self-directed recovery model. Currently at our St Paul’s shelter project we serve 20+ men ages 18 to 75 years old with a staff of 40 full/part time employees. We provide bedding, storage, showers, eating area, social area, internet, laundry passes, peer support, case management, housing assessments and weekly house meetings, and twice weekly optional peer support meetings.

The premise is that all participants are trauma survivors and that homelessness requires a recovery track, as well as the vast majority of our participants also have complex mental health, physical health and some with substance use concerns.  Along with strength-based recovery we use a peer support approach.

Outsiders Inn is staffed by people with shared, lived experience with housing insecurity, poverty, homelessness, substance use, criminal justice and mental health recovery.  We bring our experiences to the table to establish trust, rapport and understanding. We believe that no one is better qualified than the folks who have gone through these issues and found a better quality of life and a different way to live and thrive.
