Be Part of the Solution!
YOU can be a part of life-saving shelter options for people without homes in Clark County between November and March.
It's COLD between November and March and people need to get inside for a safe night's sleep. The year-round emergency shelters reach capacity and we are part of a special team of caring community members who mobilize their space and volunteers to open their doors to help meet the demand when temperatures are expected to be dangerous.
The Severe Weather Locations utilize on-call volunteers to serve at the local emergency severe weather shelters in the event of a cold weather emergency. Volunteers who respond as available will be serving at one of the local churches who have committed to opening as shelter spaces during emergency weather. The volunteer assignments will be partial or full shifts which typically begin around 6:30PM and end around 8:30AM the following morning. The volunteer opportunities will vary depending on the weather, location, and the expected number of guests.
The Satellite Overflow Shelters (SOS) extend the winter shelter capacity and are open every night during the winter. They are staffed by Outsiders Inn but they are grateful for volunteers that support the staff during welcome shifts and meals and for making/bringing the evening meals to locations.
Outsiders Inn is assisting with the requirement that all volunteers submit a volunteer application and pass a background check prior to volunteering. If you are interested in being an on-call volunteer, please fill out the application below for a background check below. We will then run the background check and pass your information along to the location you have expressed interest on the form.
*Please note submitting your application is not an automatic commitment to respond to volunteer call-outs. We would prefer you only respond to a call-out if you are able to safely travel to and from the assignment location.
